Employee Relations Specialist

About the role

We are seeking an experienced Employee Relations Specialist to join Youi on a 9-month fixed-term contract. In this role, you will provide expert guidance and practical solutions for managing employee relations (ER) across the business, working closely with People & Culture (P&C) and business leaders. You’ll leverage your knowledge of ER legislation and best practices to drive positive outcomes for the team.

To succeed, you must be commercially focused, able to work independently while reporting to the Chief People Officer and stay informed about policy changes. Effective communication skills, a commitment to learning, and adherence to formal policy review processes are essential.

You will provide advice, coaching, and support to address ER issues and create practical solutions. The ideal candidate will bring a customer-centric, empathetic approach, strong prioritisation skills, and a proven ability to influence across all levels of the organisation.

If you're looking to contribute your expertise in a fast-paced and rewarding role, we’d love to hear from you!

Ways of working

This position can be situated at either our headquarters on the Sunshine Coast or in our Fortitude Valley office.

We operate with a hybrid approach, requiring office presence from Tuesday to Thursday on location, while offering the flexibility to work remotely on Mondays and Fridays.

If you are located in Brisbane, you will need to travel to HQ once a week.

Key priorities

  • Provide technical expertise to support P&C team members in managing employee relations matters, including ill and injured employees.
  • Manage complex people issues and conduct investigations, aiming to minimise reliance on external suppliers.
  • Oversee and coordinate external claims, advocating for matters before Commissions or Tribunals.
  • Offer commercial, risk-based advice on the interpretation and application of legislation, Modern Awards, employment contracts, and policies.
  • Use specialist knowledge to drive continuous improvement in Youi's people policy framework and processes.
  • Proactively support and develop leader capability by collaborating with the P&C team to create and deliver training.
  • Ensure all matters are managed within the organisational risk appetite, championing risk-based decision-making.
  • Support Risk and P&C stakeholders in embedding a robust people risk culture within the business.

About you

  • Tertiary qualifications in Law, Human Resources, or Employee Relations.
  • Experienced HR/ER professional with a proven track record in case management, dispute resolution, policy development and review, and providing ER advice.
  • Extensive knowledge of employee and employment relations legislation and frameworks.
  • Demonstrated ability to design and implement practical solutions to manage ER risks.
  • Strong consulting and stakeholder management skills.
  • In-depth understanding of risk management principles.
